Instructor Graham Denham
Office hours by appointment
Class times MWF 10:30-11:20
Class location MC 107

This class will start on September 16th. Meanwhile, have a look at the syllabus (below). If necessary, you should spend some time reviewing module theory, and do a little reading on the language of category theory. E-mail me if you have any questions.

Assignments

There will be one assignment due approximately every two weeks, posted here.

Reading

For background reading on rings and modules, I recommend in particular Dummit and Foote's Abstract Algebra. Take a look at Chapter 10 and review, in particular, properties of Hom and tensor product.  Here are some notes on category theory by van Oosten (check out chapters 1, 2, 3, 5: the contents are at the end.)

The recommended book to buy is An introduction to homological algebra by Charles Weibel; a book by the same title by Rotman is also worth a look.
