There will be one assignment due approximately every two weeks, posted on OWL.


For background reading on rings and modules before the course starts, I recommend in particular Dummit and Foote's Abstract Algebra. Take a look at Chapter 10 and review, in particular, properties of Hom and tensor product.  Here are some notes on category theory by van Oosten (check out chapters 1, 2, 3, 5: the contents are at the end.)

  The recommended book to buy is An introduction to homological algebra by Charles Weibel; a book by the same title by Rotman is also worth a look.
