Synopsis

What's happening in Math 1120b?

A brief day-to-day summary of each day's class will appear here. Be warned, though, that you're still expected to attend class!

Syllabus

Math 1120b is an introduction to the methods and ways of thinking in modern mathematics.  Math 1120b is a first course in math beyond calculus and linear algebra. This is the recommended first step for anyone interested in a Mathematics module!  Topics include:

Homework and quizzes:

Please do the suggested exercises and try to write them up as if you were submitting them for credit. This is important, since math is something you learn by doing. Most Monday classes will start with a 15-minute quiz, designed to make sure you are keeping up. In order to accommodate illness or absence, your lowest two quiz scores will be dropped.

Collaborating with other people can add a lot to the experience of doing math, and I encourage you to do so.
Recommended exercises will be found on the OWL site, under "Syllabus".

Exams

Midterms will be held at class time (1:30-2:30) on February 13th and March 13th.  If you must miss a midterm for any reason, for assessment purposes its weight will be transferred to the final exam.
